A City Re-Founded on the Huron in 1825
Ypsilanti's original settlement, Woodruff's Grove, sat on the Huron River from April 1823, but the town that survived was platted a mile north in 1825 by Augustus Woodward, John Stewart, and William Harwood and named for General Demetrius Ypsilantis -- the site that grew into today's city.
